Transform a Hot Dog in Seconds

No special skills. No complicated setup. Simply place ScrewDog over an uncooked hot dog, roll, and reveal a continuous spiral cut that expands as it cooks.

Align

Place the hot dog on a firm, flat surface. Position ScrewDog over the right tip with the blade aligned to start the spiral.

Press

Press down firmly until the blade punctures the hot dog.

Roll

Roll forward with steady pressure, letting the hot dog rotate naturally as the spiral forms.

Repeat

Pull back, reinsert the blade where the spiral ended, and continue until you've reached the other end.

Grill

Grill as usual. As it cooks, the spiral opens, crisps, and is ready for your favorite toppings.

  • ScrewDog creates a spiral cut in a hot dog before it goes on the grill.

    Place the hot dog on a flat, stable cutting board and position ScrewDog perpendicular to the hot dog. Align the blade with the right tip where you want the spiral to begin, then press down firmly enough for the blade to engage.

    Roll ScrewDog straight forward, allowing the hot dog to rotate beneath it as the blade creates the spiral. Return the hot dog to the starting position, place the blade back into the previous cut, and repeat until you reach the end.

    A typical hot dog takes about two-and-a-half to three passes to complete the spiral.

    Once cooked, the spiral opens up, creating crispy edges, more caramelization, bite-size sections, and channels for toppings.

  • ScrewDog is designed for home grilling and backyard cooking and should be used only as intended.

    The cutting edge is designed to be functional without being razor sharp, but it should still be handled with care and kept away from young children.

  • Yes, ScrewDog is dishwasher safe.

    The upcoming production version of ScrewDog is being designed to be dishwasher safe.

  • The production version of ScrewDog will be injection molded from polypropylene.

    The earlier Founder Edition units were 3D printed in small batches and used to test and refine the design before moving into full-scale manufacturing.

  • ScrewDog works best with straight, firm hot dogs and sausages.

    Larger, firmer sausages can also work well. Softer raw sausages and curved varieties are generally not recommended because their shape and texture make it harder to create a consistent spiral.

  • The 3D-printed Founder Edition has sold out and that phase of the project is complete.

    We are now preparing to launch ScrewDog on Kickstarter, where backers will be able to support the transition into injection-molded manufacturing and receive units from the first production run.
